Revit & Enscape — Junior Interior Design Studio, Fall ‘23
This project focused on designing a refuge within the bustling environment of Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport: the world’s busiest airport. Our goal was to create a soothing, non-denominational sacred space to be referred to as an “airport chapel” where travelers of all beliefs can find peace, reconnect with themselves, and experience tranquility amid the chaos of transit. With 45.4 million passengers passing through this airport in 2022, this space aims to offer a moment of stillness and spiritual connection in an otherwise restless and overwhelming journey.
We began by researching a sacred space of our choice and used elements extracted from these spaces to inform our designs. My final design includes a wooden platform surrounded by a moat, waterfalls, and green walls all covered by a wooden dome with a central oculus. From this central oculus hangs a floral mobile with bits of mirrored glass attached to it — allowing light from the oculus to reflect off of the pieces of mirror to create a starry sky type of pattern of light reflecting around the space and deepening the space’s connection to nature.
