A Bristol paper model translating the emotion of joy into a museum inspired by basking in sunlight, with apertures that mimic the sun's rays.

Bristol paper model of a museum designed to evoke the feeling of joy

Bristol Paper Model — Junior Interior Design Studio, Fall ‘23

This project allowed us to explore the role of concept in shaping interior spaces by selecting a single emotion and translating it into a visually interesting physical model. The assignment encouraged us to explore how emotions influence spatial experiences and how design elements — such as color, texture, and imagery — can evoke specific feelings.

We began by creating a mood board or collage showing a curation of materials and symbols that best represented our chosen emotion, relying solely on visuals to communicate our idea. This collage was then abstractly transformed into a physical model of a museum of our chosen emotion.

In my Museum of Joy, I aim to capture the inviting, radiant sensation of basking in sunlight through carefully designed apertures that mimic the sun’s rays. A central spiral serves as a symbol of joy’s uplifting and optimistic essence, further immersing visitors in an atmosphere of warmth and comfort.
