A conceptual study of a raspberry, broken down into its design elements and translated into a pendant light that obscures its origin.

Conceptual sketches of a raspberry abstracted into a light pendant design

Multimedia Project — Intro to Interior Design Studio, Fall ‘22

The goal of this project was to develop conceptual design skills. First, we were asked to pick an object from nature that we found to be beautiful, study every inch of it, and draw it from every angle. We then broke our object down by the design elements and principles we saw within them and created drawings of our object depicting what it would look like if all other elements and principles except for one were removed.

After studying and evaluating these drawings, we chose 8 of our object’s most prominent design elements and principles and created conceptual sketch models representing our object as these 8 separate ideas. Finally, we were asked to develop a light pendant that was representative of our object but not easy to recognize as its original form.
