Mixed media redesign of the VCU Pollak building gathering space for the Weyanoke Association

Mixed Media Project — Intro to Interior Design Studio II, Spring ‘23

For this project, students were tasked with redesigning the VCU Pollak building’s first level to accommodate a gathering space for the Weyanoke Association. The space was to include an introductory transition space, stage and seating areas, and a room designated for resting and preparing for events.

Below, Area 1 represents the transition space including a custom display wall and vegetation signage on the exterior of the building, Area 2 represents the stage space with more seating, and Area 3 represents the backstage section.

My design showcases the Weyanoke’s inherent connection to nature and the importance of striking a harmonic balance between the manmade and the natural worlds while offering a space emphasizing community and togetherness.
